How to use this tool

  1. Copy plan figures from the Summary of Benefits and Coverage.
  2. Enter covered, in-network allowed charges and the service rules.
  3. Compare low, expected and high-use scenarios.

How the result is calculated

Annual cost combines premiums with estimated member payments for care. The deductible is applied before coinsurance where required. Eligible spending stops at the plan's out-of-pocket limit; premiums and excluded costs remain separate.

Worked example

With $200 monthly premiums, a $1,000 deductible and 20% coinsurance, $3,000 of allowed spending produces $1,400 in member costs and $3,800 total annual spending, before excluded expenses.

What this result does not cover

This first version supports individual plans with one medical deductible. It does not estimate subsidies, predict medical needs or confirm network coverage.

Questions people ask

Is the lowest premium always cheapest?

No. A higher deductible or cost share can outweigh a lower premium when you use care.

Does the spending limit include premiums?

No. Premiums and some other charges sit outside the out-of-pocket limit.

Are billed charges the right input?

Use the negotiated allowed amount when available; a provider's original bill may differ.
