How to use this tool
- Select your work pattern and leave-year dates.
- Enter regular days or eligible hours worked.
- Add contractual leave and leave already used.
How the result is calculated
Regular annual entitlement starts from weeks of leave and the days worked each week, subject to the statutory limit. Eligible irregular patterns use the accrual method shown for the selected leave year.
Worked example
Someone working three regular days each week for a complete leave year has a statutory baseline of 16.8 days before any extra contractual leave.
What this result does not cover
This version excludes Northern Ireland and complex absence cases pending separate review. Entitlement in days or hours is different from the amount of holiday pay.
Questions people ask
Are bank holidays extra?
They can be included in statutory leave; check your contract.
Can I round entitlement down?
Do not reduce statutory entitlement through arbitrary rounding; follow the relevant method.
Does this calculate holiday pay?
No. It calculates leave quantity, not the pay due for those hours.
Supported methods and sources
Regular full years use the 28-day cap. A starter staying beyond this leave year uses employment months started, rounded upward to half days before conversion to hours. A confirmed leaver uses inclusive calendar days divided by actual days in the leave year. Final regular quantities are rounded upward to 0.01 days or hours; this never reduces the underlying statutory estimate. The result is the entitlement for the selected period, not an as-of-today approval to take leave.
Irregular patterns use 12.07% per pay period, rounded to the nearest hour with half hours rounded up, and your employer-confirmed annual hours cap. Periods of four hours or less can round to zero; check employer rounding arrangements. Contractual amounts are entered separately and are never allowed to reduce the statutory baseline. No holiday-pay, carryover or special-absence calculation is included.
