TFSA Contribution Room Tracker
Track how much TFSA contribution room may remain across your accounts. Start with a confirmed opening amount, then record current-year contributions and withdrawals without treating every withdrawal as immediate new room.
Calculation breakdown
How to use this tool
- Confirm your starting room using your records.
- Enter activity across all TFSAs, identifying direct transfers.
- Review current room and any separately shown next-year amount.
How the result is calculated
Contributions use current room. Eligible ordinary withdrawals are generally added back at the start of the next calendar year, rather than on the withdrawal date.
Worked example
Starting with $7,000 of room and contributing $3,000 leaves $4,000. Withdrawing $2,000 later does not immediately change that current-year room to $6,000.
What this result does not cover
The tracker is only as complete as your records. Nonresident contributions, excess amounts and special distributions need separate review.
Questions people ask
Does CRA always show today's room?
Its records can lag current activity; reconcile your own records.
Does a direct transfer use room?
A qualifying direct transfer is treated differently from withdrawing and recontributing.
Can investment losses restore room?
No. Lost account value is not a withdrawal that restores contribution room.
