Calculation breakdown
How to use this tool
- Use your confirmed RRSP deduction limit.
- Enter the supported income and province for the tax year.
- Compare the tax reduction and any separate deferral scenario.
How the result is calculated
The calculator recomputes tax after the deduction. This matters when a deduction crosses a tax band, because not every dollar necessarily saves tax at the same rate.
Worked example
If a $5,000 deduction falls entirely in an illustrative 20% marginal band, it reduces tax by $1,000. A deduction spanning multiple bands produces a blended saving.
What this result does not cover
Tax saved is not necessarily the refund you receive. Withholding, credits, other income and benefit interactions can change the final outcome.
Questions people ask
Can I calculate room from salary alone?
No. Use your assessment and records because adjustments and unused room matter. Must I claim every contribution immediately? Deduction timing can differ from contribution timing within the applicable rules.
Does this include CCB increases?
Not unless the result explicitly shows a separately supported benefit calculation.
