How to use this tool

  1. Enter the loan and confirmed compounding terms.
  2. Choose amortization, term and payment frequency.
  3. Add household income and debts for the supported qualification scenario.

How the result is calculated

A Canadian fixed-rate quote may use semi-annual compounding. The calculator converts that rate to the payment period, then calculates payments and remaining principal.

Worked example

At zero interest, a $120,000 loan repaid over 120 monthly payments costs $1,000 per month. With interest, the payment must also cover financing costs.

What this result does not cover

This is not a lending decision. Renewal, switching, insured-loan and lender-specific rules may differ from the selected scenario.

Questions people ask

Is the term the full repayment period?

No. The term can end before the amortization period, leaving a balance to renew.

Is stress-test interest what I actually pay?

No. It is a qualification scenario, separate from the contract rate.

Why not divide every annual rate by 12?

That can misstate a rate quoted with semi-annual compounding.
