Answer-first introduction

Calculate cumulative GPA by entering every semester’s GPA and credit hours. Toolistify multiplies each semester GPA by its credits, adds the weighted points and divides by the total completed credits. Use exact course-level quality points instead when your university’s official method requires them.

Your estimated CGPA is [X.XX] out of [scale]. The calculation includes [number] semesters and [credits] completed credit hours. Your highest semester GPA is [X.XX], your lowest is [X.XX], and the current trend is [improving / stable / declining] based on the entered sequence. Interpretation: A trend describes the entered values only. It does not predict future academic performance.

CGPA formula

When semester GPA and credits are available: CGPA = Σ(semester GPA × semester credit hours) ÷ Σ(semester credit hours) When official quality points are available: CGPA = total cumulative quality points ÷ total cumulative GPA credits The second method is preferable when semester GPAs were rounded before display.

Worked CGPA example

Semester 1: GPA 3.20 across 15 credits Semester 2: GPA 3.60 across 18 credits (3.20 × 15) + (3.60 × 18) = 48.00 + 64.80 = 112.80 112.80 ÷ 33 = 3.418 The estimated CGPA is 3.42 when rounded to two decimal places.

How to calculate CGPA accurately

  1. Enter semesters in chronological order.
  2. Use the GPA and credits shown on the official result where available.
  3. Include summer or repeated semesters according to university policy.
  4. Do not mix 4.0 and 5.0 scales in one calculation.
  5. Prefer cumulative quality points when rounding could materially change the result.

Degree-progress section

Display completed credits as a percentage of the program total only when the user provides the official required credit count. Label the result “credit progress,” not “degree completion,” because internships, projects, compulsory non-credit work and other conditions may remain.

FAQs

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA commonly describes one semester or period, while CGPA combines performance across multiple semesters.

Should semesters be weighted equally?

No, not when they contain different credit totals. A semester with more credits usually has a larger effect.

Why does my result differ from the university portal?

Possible reasons include rounded semester GPAs, repeated-course rules, excluded credits, transfer courses or a different scale.

Can CGPA be converted to percentage?

There is no universal conversion. Use only a formula officially published by the institution or organization requesting the percentage.

Can I include an expected future GPA?

Use the GPA Target Planner for future scenarios and keep estimates visually separate from completed results.
